Collaboration details

The TNFD is inviting financial institutions to join other leading companies and financial institutions as TNFD Early Adopters. They can signal their intention to start adopting the TNFD Recommendations by completing the online registration form by 10 January 2024. The TNFD will announce and publish a list of early TNFD adopters at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, in Davos January 2024.

There are two timelines for getting started for TNFD adoption that qualify to join the Early Adopter cohort to be announced at Davos:

  • By financial year 2024 or earlier

"Our organisation intends to publish its first TNFD-aligned disclosures alongside financial statements as part of the same reporting package for our financial year 2024 outcomes or earlier."

  • By financial year 2025

"Our organisation intends to publish its first TNFD-aligned disclosures alongside financial statements as part of the same reporting package for our financial year 2025 outcomes."

It is clear that nature is no longer a corporate social responsibility issue, but a core and strategic risk management issue alongside climate change. Further, the TNFD helps prepare institutions against Target 15 of the Global Biodiversity Framework, which requires governments to take measures to ensure that large and transnational businesses and financial institutions assess and disclose their nature-related risks, dependencies, and impacts. 70% of companies TNFD surveyed before the launch of the TNFD recommendations said they were planning to start adopting by the financial year 2025. Leading businesses across sectors and geographies are already publicly signalling their intention to start adopting the TNFD recommendations, including ourselves, Mirova, and others such as Ecopetrol, Forico, GSK, MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Sanlam and United Utilities.

The TNFD has already made supporting implementation guidance and tools available to help financial institutions get started.

Financial institutions can signal their intention to start adopting the TNFD Recommendations through this online registration form.
