Momentum Metropolitan Life Ltd: "While we acknowledge several positive steps BHP has taken, including its net zero commitment by 2050 that covers emissions across the entire value chain (Scope 1, 2, and 3), linking executive compensation to climate performance, and actions to address physical climate risks, some concerns remain. Notably, BHP's current investments in decarbonizing steel production appear insufficient given that Scope 3 emissions make up 97% of its total emissions. A more detailed roadmap for these emissions reductions would help clarify its strategy. Additionally, BHP’s continued involvement in metallurgical coal projects raises questions about the consistency of its long-term climate objectives with its ongoing coal expansion efforts."
