The UK's Department for the Environment, Forestry and Rural Affairs (Defra) has opened a consultation seeking to introduce a due diligence requirement for companies whose supply chains may be contributing to deforestation.
Signatories are invited to sign this investor letter of support for the CA Deforestation-Free Procurement Act. Please sign on here: http://bit.ly/2uGmZJq before the January 22 deadline.
The bill, if passed, would require specific state contractors and subcontractors to have No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation (NDPE) policies, to certify compliance and to disclose about it publicly.
This would create needed transparency and incentives for NDPE policies, mitigate tropical deforestation and potentially offer investors an opportunity to invest in tropical-deforestation-free government bonds.
