Climate and decarbonisation policy in the UK

Summary

This group is for signatories to share information on climate policy developments in the UK, stay updated on PRI's policy work and opportunities to get involved.

Business case

Investors and financial sector policymakers are increasingly looking beyond financial risks and considering the real economy outcomes of investment. A focus on real economy outcomes would require investors to manage not only the financial performance of assets, but also the way in which they contribute to the real economy.

The UK has committed to net zero emissions by 2050, and will host COP 26 in 2021. This presents significant opportunities for investors to influence climate policy and invest in assets that support the green transition. In our briefing, we have identified key policy priorities for the government in relation to decarbonisation and a green recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, and how investors can support this.

Over the coming months we will seek to engage with UK policymakers on these priorities. This group is for signatories to keep updated on policy engagement opportunities as they emerge, influence PRI's policy priorities and connect with peers to engage collaboratively on these priorities with policymakers and other stakeholders.
