Proposals to Disclose External Antimicrobial Resistance Costs

3 members

TSC helped proponents to file proposals at McDonald’s and YUM! Brands requesting a report on the external public health costs associated with antimicrobial resistance (AMR) that arises from excessive use of antibiotics in their meat supply chains. The proposals cite studies that calculate economic losses from AMR at $54 trillion by 2050.

TSC also helped proponents to file proposals at McDonald’s and YUM! Brands requesting a report on the external public health costs associated with antimicrobial resistance (AMR) that arises from excessive use of antibiotics in their meat supply chains. The proposals cite studies that calculate economic losses from AMR at $54 trillion by 2050.

Yum became the first public company to agree explicitly to disclose the impacts of its practices on the global economy and the portfolios of diversified shareholders. On that basis, the proponent withdrew the resolution at Yum. McDonald’s has declined to discuss a similar agreement and has not sought to exclude the proposal from its proxy, so TSC expects the resolution to go to a vote at the golden arches. McDonald’s failed to address any of the proposal’s key points, and TSC – along with the proponents at Trinity College, Cambridge and AMUNDI – expect multiple investors to lend their support to this pivotal resolution.
