Initiative Climat International (iCI)
Private markets action on climate change: a collective commitment to understand and reduce carbon emissions of private markets-backed companies and secure sustainable investment performance.
About iCI
iCI was originally launched in November 2015 as the iC20 by a group of French private equity firms that wanted to contribute to the COP21 objective of limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius in a manner consistent with their investment mandates.
Private equity is an integral part of global capital markets, facilitating sustained growth across industries and market sectors. Accordingly, private equity firms have a unique opportunity to measure, understand, and seek to mitigate carbon emissions and broader climate risks and opportunities across their portfolios.
iCI members:
1. Recognise that climate change will have adverse effects on the global economy, which presents both risks and opportunities for investments.
2. Seek to contribute to the objective of the Paris Agreement – to limit global warming to well below two degrees Celsius.
3. Engage with their portfolio companies to measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to an overall improvement in sustainability performance.
Benefits of iCI
iCI is a formally endorsed, collaborative global initiative which provides a variety of benefits for its members, including:
1. Access to workshops, webinars and regulatory updates prepared by industry specialists and practitioners.
2. Peer-to-peer collaboration to share best practices for climate action through working groups, regional chapters and the global iCI network.
3. ‘Tried and tested’ guidelines, tools, and training materials dedicated to alternative assets to enable effective climate action and GHG emissions reductions in alignment with the Paris Agreement.
